Race, class and colonialism in the global countryside

You are invited to join an in-person workshop with WISERD international visitors Dr Rose Butler and Dr Victoria Stead from the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation at Deakin University in Australia:

The workshop will provide space to explore the intersections of race, class and colonialism in the contemporary global countryside. Short stimulus presentations by Rose Butler, Victoria Stead and Michael Woods will present perspectives from research in Australia, Ireland and the UK, and draw on a recent special issue on ‘Race and Place-making in the Rural Global North’ in the Journal of Rural Studies. Workshop participants are encouraged to add perspectives from their own research as the discussion compares contexts and interpretations and works towards identifying new research questions and opportunities for dialogue in further understanding of contemporary rural politics.

Rose and Victoria will also present the WISERD Lunchtime Seminar on Tuesday 3rd October, 12-1pm, on zoom, on ‘Situating Class and Power in Rural Australia’.

For more information about the workshop contact Michael Woods, m.woods@aber.ac.uk
