The 2023 Annual Welsh Politics and Society Lecture is presented by Professor Alan Renwick, University College London and Deputy Director of the Constitution Unit.

Recent years have seen widespread concerns among academics and commentators about the state of democracy in the UK. But do the wider public share such worries? A common riposte has been that most people do not care about political process, but rather just want the system to deliver their desired outcomes. Recent research at the UCL Constitution Unit, led by Professor Alan Renwick, finds that people do care about the state of politics and do want change. The Democracy in the UK after Brexit project, comprising surveys and a citizens’ assembly, identifies wide and deep disquiet about the status quo. This lecture will explore these findings, and examine evidence on what reforms might help to restore confidence in the operation of the democratic system.

Join us for a drinks and canape reception from 18:00, the lecture will start at 18:30.

There will be an opportunity for questions and answers. The lecture will be in English.

This event is free and open to all, we look forward to seeing you there!
