This year CWPS-WISERD members Dr Jesse Heley, Dr Flossie Kingsbury, Dr Sally Power, Dr Amy Sanders and Dr Najia Zaidi were awarded the prize for Best Paper at Voluntary Sector and Voluntary Research Annual Conference.
The Campbell Adamson Memorial Prize is awarded each year for the Best Paper at Voluntary Sector and Voluntary Research (VSVR) Annual Conference. This is a conference organised by the Voluntary Sector Studies Network (VSSN). The theme of this year’s conference was Politics, Partnerships, and Power: Raising Questions for Civil Society.
The award is decided by two panels, the first is drawn from VSSN and the second consists of representatives from the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO). Dr Sanders was presented with the prize on 15th September 2022 in Sheffield by the VSSN Chair, Dr Jon Dean.
The award was for the conference paper: The privilege of virtue and the need for reward: An examination of patronage, elites and power relations within civil society.
This paper draws on the research from one of our WISERD civil society projects called Patronage, Elites and Power Relations. It is part of the ESRC-funded examination of civic stratification and civil repair by the WISERD’s Civil Society Centre.
