This presentation will introduce the AMA Project— a transdisciplinary research project at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) in Potsdam, Germany. It is a science-based reflection and empowerment hub for change agents engaging in personal transformation as an integral part of socio-ecological transformation. We believe there is an over-emphasis on technological and political solutions to socio-ecological problems, while the relevance of self-cultivation is often downplayed and even neglected. Our mission is to nurture a community of change agents that integrate the cultivation of sustainable mindsets, lifestyles, social systems, and practices. We provide academic material that legitimizes these connections. We build bridges that generate synergies between people and institutions who often find themselves isolated in this work. And we engage in a continuous process of transforming ourselves, our practices, and our social systems to enact the change we care about.
